Event description

Charlotte - How do we write our own stories that reject what society writes onto us? It Be Like That Sometimes combines theater, installation art, and community dialogue to pose that question while celebrating the way we create our own truths against all odds. It Be Like That Sometimes is an immersive theatrical experience that explores the impact of unjust societal narratives on our mental health.

The immersive experience questions how the outside world's stories creep into our domestic space and the most sacred space of all, our minds. Step inside the story and meet the Reynolds family, who have overcome the labels, the financial woes, and the endless cycle of disappointments to create joy, authenticity, and most importantly self-love. “If you’ve ever had the kind of day that drained you, where lists of demands felt overwhelming, where you felt the shame of not being enough and had to sit in the car completely quiet before you went in your house then you know It Be Like That Sometimes,” says Kat Martin Artistic Director of MMP.

During this 55-minute show, you’ll walk through an Enderly Park home with just nine other audience members. The performance and show environment will surround you, blurring the lines between audience and participant. Don’t miss this intimate, immersive theatrical experience that promises to be a celebration of creativity and community.

Mixed Metaphors Productions disrupts narratives of erasure through immersive theatre, art installation, and new oral histories in Charlotte, NC. Together with our community collaborators, we challenge Charlotte’s past, celebrate Charlotte’s present, and imagine a future where every Charlottean is valued. We can’t wait to meet you.
