JamFactory Wednesday Talks // 'Flame' Exhibition Curator Talk
Event description
Join us for a casual Wednedsay Talk with the curator of our latest exhibition 'Flame'.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hear from the curator of our latest exhibition ‘Flame’ showing in JamFactory, Gallery Two.
Flame delves into the rituals surrounding candles, light, and fire, emphasising both ancient traditions and contemporary rituals. This exhibition brings together the work of ten artists who reinterpret the candleholder, a symbol that has transcended time as both a ritual object and a beacon of personal and common expression.
Candles have been at the heart of spiritual and cultural rituals for tens of thousands of years. The earliest documented candleholders, dating back to 1699 in England, were not just functional items but intricate artefacts that carried deep symbolic meaning. Over centuries, these objects evolved from the ornate metalwork of the Middle Ages to the sleek ceramics of modern times each era adding its own layer of significance.
