Event description

January Japanese Calligraphy Workshop

Immerse yourself in the beauty of this Japanese art form and learn

how to write Japanese characters including Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji.

This is one in a series of monthly Saturday calligraphy workshops to be held at the 'Somewhere Coffee Bar'.

Maiko, your calligraphy instructor will guide you through the basics, teaching
you the proper techniques and strokes to create a beautiful piece to
take home after the event.

All levels of Japanese calligraphy and cultural competency are welcome.

Maiko Howell was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan and began studying calligraphy at age 5 under the guidance of her mother – also a calligrapher.

Maiko became a master of Japanese traditional calligraphy in 2017 and has held workshops for children and adults throughout Eastern Japan, and now lives and teaches in Tasmania for physical classes/workshops, and promotes Japanese calligraphy as an art and all aspect of Japanese culture.

For people living overseas including Japan and the US, she also offers regular calligraphy classes/workshops virtually.
