Jazz Orchestra Composer Series Presents: Chelsea Prastiti's Bonita
Event description
The second act in our line up of concerts is Chelsea Prastiti, an outstanding vocalist from Tamaki Makaurau, and creator of such acclaimed projects as Skilaa (of which the single ‘Jenny Greenteeth’ was nominated for an APRA Silver Scroll 2024), Leda’s Dream (a free improvising jazz project), and Bonita, which she'll be presenting here.
"Bonita is the brainchild of Tamaki Makaurau composer, musician & improv vocalist Chelsea Prastiti, who created the 10-13 piece project in celebration of the enchanting sounds of Brazil’s Bossa singer-songwriters from the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. Inspired by the likes of Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, Gal Costa, Joyce, Sergio Mendes, Hermeto Pascoal, Tom Jobim, Bonita will take you on a sunny adventure through valleys, rivers and trees thick with flora and fauna from the realm of Eurydice and Prince Orpheu. A very special project not to be missed!"
The Jazz Orchestra Composer Series showcases original music for large jazz ensemble by New Zealand composers. Concerts take place every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, from May to October, from 7pm. Tickets are $15, door sales $20.
