Event description

ABOUT JEFF USHER'S JAZZ UNIT
Jeff Usher, composer, pianist, singer/songwriter, arranger and music educator, is Australia’s best kept jazz secret. Yet he was once described by Paul Grabovsky as “one of Brisbane’s living treasures”.

Jeff has performed in France, Indonesia, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, and across Australia during a career spanning over forty years. He has performed with Richie Cole, Tom Mason, David Murray, and Australian jazz greats including James Morrison, Bernie McGann, Andrew Firth, Bob Barnard and Dale Barlow. He has released seven albums and recorded more than fifty of his own compositions.

Jeff received a PhD in music composition from University of Queensland in 2019, and has been a tutor at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University since 1998.

For this performance at JMI Live, Jeff is accompanied by Brad Esbensen (trumpet/flugelhorn), Martin Kay (alto sax), Ashley Hutton (tenor sax), Nick Maskell (bass) and Dominic Machen (drums), performing some of his most enduring compositions.
