Event description

For years, Jo Meares and Pete Ross shared the same dream, travelling around Europe, playing on the same stages, crashing on the same couches and sharing circles of friends, but somehow they never crossed paths. That is, until a few months ago. After finally meeting and realizing how many invisible threads had connected them all along, these two musicians figured it was about time they played a gig together.

Join them for an afternoon of great music, good vibes, and a collaboration that was bound to happen sooner or later.

JO MEARES BAND

Jo is a Sydney based singer/songwriter who has produced multiple albums over 25 years of playing.

The Jo Meares band combine Jo's songwriting, his Cohen-esque weathered tone, halfway between a whisper and a growl, amongst textured sonic terrains with soundtrack-like emotionality. The band has an extraordinary level of musicianship. Expect lush backing vocals, sublime violin and saw, lovely electronic sounds and piano, gorgeous guitar and percussion and brilliant songs.

“I was hipped to this Australian singer/songwriter in the very best way: A mate kindly gave me one of his LPs and just told me to listen. I did. And I still am! Jo Meares has a dark whisper of a voice. He is like an introverted, quiet Paul Kelly. The writing is profound, the production and delivery exquisite. He might be the Aussie Bill Callahan in fact'  Simon Sweetman, Radio NZ

PETE ROSS & THE SAPPHIRE

Pete Ross & The Sapphire’s are currently promoting the single, “This Is War” their first recording in more than five years which reflects on the state of the world, asking: “Is this how it's meant to be?

The band relocated to Sydney after a decade living and touring in Europe whilst releasing several albums through French label Beast Records. They have recently played supports to legendary artists such as Charlie Owen, The Johnnys and John Kennedy and are fast building a reputation for their swampy and dark country blues sets.

“A class band with a terrific batch of songs and brilliant players, with songs recalling Gram Parsons and The Band. This band is a hidden secret playing around Sydney at the moment”  Edwin Garland www.i94bar.com
