• Do I need to book an appointment?

  No, the Justice of the Peace (JP) services at PAE Libraries are a drop-in style service, and bookings cannot be made.

  When you arrive, take a number and wait your turn to be called. Library staff will be happy to offer directions if required.

  To avoid disappointment, we recommend that you arrive early, as wait times and queues can be high. Each person is allocated approximately 5 minutes, allowing as many people as possible to be assisted.

  It is also strongly advised that you arrive at least 30 minutes before the end of the session. If you arrive close to the session finish time, the JP may be unable to assist you.

• What do I need to bring with me?

  • Bring valid photo identification (such as a driver’s licence, passport, or student card), as most documents require identity verification.

  • Bring original documents if you require copies to be certified. In some cases, valid electronic documents may also be presented for certification.

  • Carefully read any instructions provided with your forms to ensure you bring all required supporting documents.

• Can I print or photocopy documents?

  Yes, PAE Libraries offer printing and photocopying services.

  If you require printing or photocopying, please allow extra time and ensure that these copies are ready for presentation prior to contact with the JP.

  Both cash and debit/credit card payment options are available for printing and photocopying services. More information about printing and photocopying services can be found on the PAE Libraries website.

• Can library staff/volunteers witness my documents?

  No, library staff and volunteers cannot witness documents.

  If your documents require an additional witness, you must bring that person with you. If the JP is required to witness a document signature those who are to apply their signature should be present.

• Can the JP help with complex documents such as Affidavits or Advanced Care Directives?

  The drop-in JP service at PAE Libraries is intended for routine document witnessing and certification. Each person is allocated approximately 5 minutes with the JP, allowing as many people as possible to be assisted.

  Documents that are lengthy or complex, such as affidavits requiring multiple endorsements, may require additional time and alternative arrangements to ensure they can be completed appropriately.

  If you have a complex or lengthy document, such as an Advance Care Directive, that may take longer than a standard appointment, our team will work with you to ensure appropriate support is provided. Where additional time is required, we may arrange a dedicated follow-up session or alternative support option to allow your document to be completed with appropriate care and attention, while also ensuring the service remains accessible to other clients.

• Can I see a Justice of the Peace who speaks a language other than English?

  PAE Libraries JP services are provided in English only, and we cannot guarantee the availability of a JP who speaks another language.

  If you need a JP who speaks a specific language, you can use the South Australian JP Search to search by language.

• What is a Justice of the Peace?

  A justice of the peace (JP) acts as an independent and objective witness to documents people use for official or legal purposes. More information about JP's in South Australia and when their services are required can be found on the South Australian Government website.

• How can I become a volunteer Justice of the Peace?
