Description

Katazome is a traditional Japanese textile dyeing technique that uses indigo dye, stencils, and a rice-paste resist to create patterns on fabric.

You will learn how to make the rice paste, how to apply it to the fabric using stencils, and, finally, how to submerge your fabric into an indigo dye vat.

We will be using linen tea towels to learn the basic concepts. Then you can venture onto a cotton tote bag or create another tea towel.

Everything is provided for the day, including rice paste, stencils, equipment and dye vat.
