Kawandi Style Quilting Workshop
Event description
This Kawandi style workshop teaches you a simple machine based version of a 'quilt as you go' technique. This style of African quilting is great for using all those small scraps of fabric left over from other creative projects.
You will learn how to piece, quilt and finish, all in one simple step. All materials are provided, but you can also bring your own pieces of old clothing (woven cotton, not stretch) or fabric scraps if you like. It's a great opportunity to stitch together memories from precious pieces you may have.
In this workshop you'll create a placemat size Kawandi piece. We will be offering a follow-up workshop on how to turn this piece into a hand or shoulder bag - keep an eye out for this one!
Basic sewing machine skills are required for this workshop. You can bring your own machine or use one of ours.
Our workshops: All of our classes and workshops are created using circular economy principles. This means we love using many recycled and reclaimed fabrics and haberdashery items for our projects. We are deeply passionate about diverting textile waste from landfill and we do this through upcycling.
