Kelp in the City: Exploring Sydney’s Hidden Underwater Forests
Description
Come grab a coffee and join us for an inspiring morning with marine scientist Annemie Rose Janssen, whose career has taken her from Antarctic waters and deep-sea shark research to international ocean policy and marine conservation.
Today, Annemie is diving into a question right on our doorstep: how are Sydney’s underwater forests adapting to city life? Currently completing her PhD at Macquarie University, she is uncovering the surprising ways kelp forests are responding to urban environments, and what these changes could mean for the future health and resilience of our coastal ecosystems.
Part scientist, part explorer, and entirely passionate about the ocean, Annemie brings fascinating stories from the field, cutting-edge marine research, and a hopeful perspective on how nature can thrive alongside people.
Join us at The Boathouse Shelly Beach for an engaging and accessible talk that will reveal the hidden world beneath the waves and leave you looking at Sydney Harbour with fresh eyes.
