Kids Own Publishing: Book Making Workshop

Join an artist-led workshop that creates an imaginative space for collaboration and creative play. Children, families and carers will be guided through a process of turning experiences into images and stories, learning skills to create and publish their own books together at this workshop and at home.

Kids’ Own Publishing is changing the world one book at a time. They work with artists to publish books by kids, for kids, in a process that supports literacy, creativity, confidence and connection.  Their work is profound, transformative and based on the strengths of children and their communities.

This workshop has two different session times, both taking place in Gallery Two.

Kids’ Own Publishing is changing the world one book at a time.

We collaborate with artists to co-create books by kids for kids. Children publish books that reflect their own unique worlds in a process that supports confidence, creativity and connection. Our work is profound, transformative and based in the strengths of the communities we partner. We are a not-for-profit arts organisation established in Naarm/Melbourne in 2005, and since then we have co-created and published over 200 books by children.

Artists are central to Kids’ Own’s model of community publishing. The Artists engaged to work on Kids’ Own projects empower participants in the art and story making that becomes each published book. Kids’ Own Artists work in a way that honours the authentic, unfiltered and infinitely imaginative voice of children that make up the diversity of contemporary Australia. Artists model creative thinking and risk taking, and share their own practice within each project.
