King For A Day - Workshop
Event description
King for a Day
Try on your crown. Explore your Drag King persona with The King Coach, Danica Lani.
Presented by Kings of Joy as part of Qtopia’s Pride Month Season.
What would it be like to try on confidence, power, and play—all in one afternoon? Try on masculinity like a costume—and find the freedom inside it.
In this uplifting and playful 3-hour taster workshop, you’ll explore the world of Drag Kinging with none other than The King Coach herself—Danica Lani, founder of Kings of Joy.
Fresh from their sold-out premiere Mardi Gras season of They Will Be Kings—a collaborative work with Werewolf Productions—Kings of Joy are back to invite you into the joy, embodiment, and creative power of Drag King performance.
This workshop is a joyful, gender-affirming invitation to meet the King within. No experience is necessary—just a curious spirit and a willingness to play. Together, we’ll lean into your masculinity, discover what it feels like to embody a larger-than-life version of yourself and take the first steps toward creating your Drag King persona. You’ll explore performance basics like stage presence and lip-syncing, and connect with a supportive community of fellow queer creatives and first-time Kings.
Expect laughter, connection, and a chance to try on your crown—whether for a day or a lifetime.
If you leave wanting more (and you just might), you’ll have the opportunity to sign up for Kings of Joy: Gold Stars, a 5-week group performance program culminating in your first group stage debut.
This event is open to LGBTQIA+ people of all genders and is grounded in the values of joy, non-toxic masculinity, gender diversity, and anti-racism.
