Koko & Panikeke Workshop with the Samoan Cultural Collective

Calling all chocolate lovers!

Join us for an indulgent evening workshop and learn how to brew the national drink of Samoa, Koko Samoa.

In this workshop, we will share the cultural significance and preparation of this delicious hot koko that has become an integral part of Samoan culture and lifestyle. Koko Samoa is regarded as one of richest and highest-grade cocoa in the world. It has become a staple when visiting family or friends in Samoa, where it’s common to be welcomed with a warm cup of Koko Samoa, symbolising hospitality and community.

After we brew the Koko together, we will also teach you how to make Panikeke (PAN-EEE-KAY KAY), a delicious, deep-fried donut ball with juicy diced pineapple.

Please note: some dietary requirements may not be able to be met due to the nature of this cuisine. Get in touch with us if you have any concerns or queries about dietary requirements. Koko Samoa is vegan.

This activity is suited to adults and children aged 12 and over. Younger children are welcome if supervised by an adult, but may not be able to fully participate in the activity. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further. Tickets are required for adults and children aged 12 and over.

This event is presented as part of "LUMI - The wisdom of island peoples"

LUMI fosters authentic cultural collaboration, reciprocity and relationships between First Nations and Pasifika peoples across the island of Lutruwita. LUMI celebrates the ancient pathways of the Pacific, where ocean currents have carried stories, knowledge and peoples between islands since time immemorial.

Aboriginal and Pasifika peoples have long been connected through shared stewardship of these vast blue waters. Developed in collaboration between communities, this intimate program of workshops and events preserves and promotes traditional knowledge, forging bonds across communities and inviting the wider public to experience and share traditional cultural practices of song, dance, ceremony and food.

LUMI weaves together the wisdom of island peoples, honouring ancient connections while nurturing new ones.
