Landcare Florabank Training

Join Upper Murrumbidgee Landcare, Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council and special guest presenter Kelly Stubbs for a targeted training session on the Florabank Guidelines and best practice for native seed collection and use.

This session is designed for Landcare members and/or volunteers in our Southern Tablelands Tree Start Growers Network who wish to improve their knowledge and skills in sourcing seed from local native plants.

The face-to-face workshop will be facilitated by Kelly Stubbs - an educator in native seed collector practices. As the Florabank training is no longer offered online, Kelly will guide the group through the material which includes fifteen modules outlining the standards for native seed collection, suitable methods for harvesting, storage, propagation, selling etc.

If you're interested in collecting native seed for your own personal propagation and planting projects, or think you might like to contribute local provenance seed to our district Landcare projects - then this training is for you! 

Landcare's long term goal is to offer more native seed training opportunities to build a network of volunteer seed collectors to work alongside the Southern Tablelands Tree Start Growers Network -  supplying fresh local seed to grow plants for landholder, Landcare group and community revegetation efforts.

Meet the Speaker

Kelly Stubbs

Kelly is the founder and "Chief Plant Whisperer" of Wagtail Natives Nursery in Cootralantra NSW. She specialises in propagating hardy, local native plants designed to survive the challenging and unique alpine regional climate of the Snowy Monaro.

Kelly has a strong community focus collaborating frequently with schools, Landcare groups, and environmental organisations. From her 'Species Keepers' program, to citizen science and native propagation workshops, Kelly often partners with Upper Murrumbidgee and Upper Shoalhaven Landcare in supporting the Southern Tablelands Tree Start Growers Network.

About the Florabank Guidelines

The Florabank Guidelines are the best practice for native seed collection and use in Australia. It's a go-to resource for anyone working with native seed in any capacity, from research to restoration, planting to policy, and everything in between.

Originally published in 1999/2000, the guidelines were revised in 2021 to include a further 20 years of accumulated knowledge and research. Developed by the Florabank Consortium, comprising the Australian Network for Plant Conservation, Australian National Botanic Gardens, CSIRO, and Greening Australia, the guidelines promote ethical, effective, and sustainable seed use across Australia’s diverse landscapes.
