Larapuna Community Weekend 2026 - The Gardens
Description
This beach walk kicks off Friends of larapuna Coast's community series of events for 2026.
After a free bus transfer at 8.30am (sharp) from near St Helens Skate Park, participants (aka fabulous volunteers - you!) walk 13km between Policemans Point and The Gardens. We survey and remove the invasive beach weed Sea Spurge and marine debris, on the beautiful east coast among great company. Beach-nesting birds such as the Hooded Plover call this place home, and it's all about improving their habitat whilst taking in the incredible beauty of where they live. After the full day walk, a free bus transfer returns us to where we started.
To participate you must already be registered with the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service as a volunteer.
You cannot register on the day. This is done online by applying here: PWS Volunteer Registration link. Being a registered volunteer worker brings protections, but also obligations. If you are already a registered PWS volunteer please check it is all up to date.
Please note:
Distances are approximate. Young people under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Mobile phone reception is limited in this part of Tasmania so don't rely on having reception.
Please be aware that the walks are on a combination of soft sand, rocky headlands, uneven inland tracks and may include wading through cold water. A sound level of fitness is essential.
It is not unusual to experience four seasons in one day and we will be in a remote area with limited shelter - please be prepared with clothing for rain, wind and sunshine, sturdy footwear and food and water.
This event series is supported by:
Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service
Tasmanian Walking Co./Bay of Fires Lodge
Break O'Day Council
NRM North
Aboriginal Land Council Tasmania
Wildcare Tasmania
and made possible by funding from the Tasmanian Nature Conservation Fund.
Bookings are essential and places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Tickets for the other days can be found here:
