Event description

What if there was a way to support First Nations self-determination, deliver enhanced environmental outcomes, create stronger community connections to land, and eat delicious food all at once? It may seem far-fetched in a modern day Australia, an idea that’s too good to be true because it demands Truth to be told about Country. It’s the concept we will be pursuing with the launch of Eating Country to Save Country.

Prior to colonisation, Aboriginal communities thrived for thousands of generations managing interconnected food systems across local, seasonal and climatic conditions. Despite colonisation’s best efforts to erase the past and paint a White History, First Nations food practices, cultures and systems remain, and Finding Nature has been invited to  play a role in supporting this.

After travelling to Barrington Tops in early March and experiencing stories of traditional foods and the role of trade in Aboriginal culture, there is an opportunity for Sydney’s professionals to discover, learn about and play a proactive role in supporting the ongoing emergence of such stories and the associated economic, environmental and social benefits. Since inception, Finding Nature has wanted to combine on Country expeditions, meaningful and memorable experiences that strengthen relationships to self, others and culture, and be a community that creates new ways of being and doing in the world. Eating Country to Save Country is exactly this combination.

At this launch you’ll have the opportunity to hear about and choose to take part in upcoming expeditions and to play a role in creating ideas, revenue streams and go to market plans for different food products from all over NSW and the ACT. We’re looking for storytellers, entrepreneurs, foodies, business people, financiers and culture champions to help us build something important and enduring.

This project is about leveraging the strengths and talents of our community and putting them to work in a meaningful way, to pay respect to Country and First Nations knowledge systems, and to do something tangible and real about building a better future.

Food and drinks on the night will be infused with a native pepper-berry only found at Barrington Tops to bring to life the taste and potential of a 65,000 year old food story.

Sign up now to take part, to learn about the project and to discover more about the extraordinary food story of the Country we call home.

Your ticket involves your food from the incomparable Gus_tronomy and drinks, including home brew champion/Responsible Investment legend Pablo Berrutti.
