Layers of Support: Melbourne
A Body-Mind Centering® and Contact Improvisation Workshop facilitated by Noa Rotem and Anat Greenberg Yariv.
Coming to Melbourne for the first time!
Noa and Anat, both experienced teachers and movers in their fields, find the meeting point between BMC®, Improvisation and Contact improvisation to be a source of curiosity and rich discovery.
This workshop is a part of a series of our collaborative research sessions and stems from our joy of dancing together and diving into embodied research.
Together, we will explore the relational cycle which underlies the development of movement and which is comprised of the five basic actions of ‘yield, push, reach, take hold, and pull’.
These actions are first initiated in utero, continue to develop in the first couple of years of life, and remain intrinsic to our moving body throughout our lives.
It is not only a movement cycle, but is also the cycle of relationship with self, the other and the world.
It shapes the range of dynamics that colours our interactions with the world.
This process supports, requires and enables trust.
What to expect:
- slow solo work on the floor
- group improvisation scores
- partnering work
- verbal and somatic exchange explaining the details of the cycle and other relevant processes
- playful exploration and time for integration through movement and dance
- paired hands-on work

About Body-Mind Centering ® :
Body-Mind Centering ® is an embodied approach that utilizes movement, touch and voice to explore the relationship between body and mind.
The combination of anatomical information and developmental processes are framed within an experiential context, providing the body-mind with the opportunity to meet itself in a new way.
“The mind is like the wind and the body is like the sand. If you want to know how the wind is blowing, you can look at the sand”. - founder Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.

About Contact Improvisation:
Contact Improvisation is a dialogue through touch and movement, the sharing of a rolling point of contact and discovering together what is possible. Learning to give a clear “Yes” and “NO”, sharing weight, recognising personal and physical boundaries whilst also opening to invitations to playfulness. It is a play with laws of nature such as gravity and momentum and is based on the body’s instincts and basic developmental patterns.
