Learn to Weave! Lantern making for Be the Light Mparntwe
Event description
LEARN TO WEAVE & HELP MAKE A LANTERN FOR BE THE LIGHT MPARNTWE!
Join local artist Kirrily Jordan in a free weaving workshop and contribute to a community lantern-making project. Develop your skills while making new connections and seeing your weaving come to life.
What you'll learn:
- How to work with raffia and natural plant fibres
- The tools you’ll need
- The versatile mariposa coiling stitch
- Shaping and patterning
This workshop is great for beginners and intermediate weavers. Our focus is on exploration, play and self-expression, not perfection!
All materials for the day are provided. Being a small class there’ll be time for personal tuition.
The lanterns will form part of a collective installation for public exhibition.
BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL as there are limited spaces available.
This project is made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.
About me: I am a non-Indigenous weaver born and grown on Ngunnawal, Ngambri, Dharug and Guringai country. The weaving I share has been handed down from many traditions and is passed on with permission.
