Life after the PhD: Planning your next steps

This session covers an introduction to career planning. In this highly competitive environment, PhD candidates need to start considering their options early and be strategic about developing their careers, whether they wish to remain in academic research or pursue other career paths. The training will be interactive and practical, designed to guide participants through the steps involved in turning career aspirations into goals, and then into actions that attendees can start taking right away. The session will be delivered by PostdocTraining.

Additional session: Attendance at this session grants attendees the opportunity to be considered for the additional career planning training session on Thursday 23 Oct, 9am - 12pm. This session is recommended for PhD Candidates in the second half of their candidacy. Please indicate your interest in attending this additional session in the registration form.

Facilitator

Dr Kerstin Fritsches

Kerstin is a former research fellow who spent the majority of her 12-year research career on grant funding, with first-hand experience of the challenges facing early career researchers and a strong track record in postdoc affairs and career development. A lack of effective career training for PhDs led Kerstin to found PostdocTraining, to bridge a gap in professional development by providing support tailored specifically for PhD students and postdocs. PostdocTraining delivers career development support and mentoring for researchers worldwide, and Kerstin has become a sought-after workshop facilitator on topics such as career planning and research leadership in Australia and Europe.
