Light Reading - Exhibition Launch
Event description
Light Reading | Lamp and book launch
A lamp, a book, a reader. In this familiar triad, we act out our relationship to objects as vessels for both utility and narrative. And at certain points where utility and narrative cross, an object takes up a certain spirit. A lamp that tells the story of its material history, a book that functions as a light switch.
In this project a series of lamps are crafted from the reused materials of a disassembled artwork. Leant against each lamp is a book, and in that book the story of the lamp’s materials are recounted. You lift the book and the lamp turns on.
Light Reading is an exhibition of these two intertwined objects, and their tangle of utility and narrative. It is a space of lights and books, for time spent with the processes of reading. A kind of communal lamp, in whose light a new story might be discovered or old favorites discussed.
The exhibition opens with Spring, and will be held at Mori Lewisham across the weekend of 7-8 September.
