Lightroom Masterclass – Sunday 7 September
Lightroom Classic is one of the most innovative and intuitive programs to allow serious photographers to creatively store; catalogue and digitally interpret images. The latest Lightroom Classic incorporates AI to produce the most powerful editing suite to date. It is now the software of choice of most professionals and enthusiasts while providing non-destructive editing.
In this hands-on, small number master class; you will learn the most useful tips, tricks and powerful editing tools in the Develop Module with Perth’s leading Lightroom Master Photographer- presenter. Follow each step using your own laptop with the provided images together with the ability to clarify the process with your questions (unlike using on-line programs). Bring three images of your own and a selection of images from the group will be also be used to illustrate interpreting and editing images.
You will need something to write on and your own laptop (plus mouse and charger), with a working copy of Lightroom Classic already installed ** (or trial copy) and a basic knowledge of computing. All images used in the workshop will be provided.
Among the topics covered include importing the working images into a collection and effectively using the most important creative panels in the Develop Module including the very powerful new AI masking techniques to produce stunning images.
Landscapes Masterclass – Sunday 5 October
All photographers will at one time or another try their hand at capturing landscapes. Many will find that landscapes are perhaps one of the most difficult genres to master. Unlike themes such as portraits, wildlife and food photography etc. these themes main subject matter is easy enough to define although doing it well still needs great skill and creativity. With landscapes, there is always chaos and complexity in the scene and the subject matter isn’t always readily discernible from everything else.
On top of that, learning what light produces the best results in the various genres and themes of landscapes can very challenging.
In this masterclass, you will learn ways of seeing and interpreting possible themes in the field; what light favours which types of landscapes and how to creatively interpret and pre-visualise the scene in front of you for the best results. Nick will also share many of his personal editing techniques he has learnt over many decades to get the best out of a landscape.
You will need something to write on and your own laptop (plus mouse and charger), with a working copy of Lightroom Classic already installed (or trial copy) and a basic knowledge of computing. All images used in the workshop will be provided.**
Travel Masterclass – Sunday 2 November
Successful travel photographers often wear more hats than perhaps any other photographic genre. In a single travel photo shoot, they are at times architectural photographers, food photographers, portrait photographers, landscape photographers, wildlife photographers – the list encompassing every possible type of photography.
This Creative Travel Masterclass will demonstrate and explain Travel Photography techniques which will show participants how to create cohesive professional travel essays with a ‘Sense of Place;’ using images that go far beyond "I was here" photographs.
From the establishing shots to field techniques to suggested equipment and finally to the visualisation and interpretation of the images with software such as Lightroom Classic; this Masterclass discusses the skills and concepts necessary to create professional looking travel images in various genres, including portrait and landscape photography; wildlife, documentary and more.
You will need something to write on and if preferred; your own laptop (plus mouse and charger), with a working copy of Lightroom Classic already installed * (or trial copy) and a basic knowledge of computing. All images used in the editing segment during the workshop will be provided.
** Nick will be doing a personal shoot on the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour 10:00 am – 12 noon on Sunday Oct 26th. If you are a Masterclass participant and want to join Nick to see some of the travel techniques he will cover, meet him in front of the Little Creatures building on the water. If you can’t make it, no problems as these techniques will be demonstrated during the masterclass.
Black and White Masterclass – Sunday 7 December
Many regard a well-crafted black and white image to be the pinnacle of fine art photography. To hold a well seen and crafted black and white image can be pure joy. We are all familiar with the legacy left to us by master photographers such as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Edward Weston. Today black and white photography is making a huge comeback and this is largely due to the ease with which photographers can achieve high quality images using digital techniques.
What is also exciting is the fact that we are slowly becoming like painters, we are building our vision as we imagined and felt at the time of capture and like a painter, we can ‘paint’ in our ‘realities’ to provide a powerful statement or narrative. Black and white is not reality and by stripping away colour in a black and white image is the first step in embracing the abstract
In this hands-on, small number master class; you will learn the most useful tips, tricks and powerful editing techniques in producing high quality, fine art black and white images.
You will need something to write on and your own laptop (plus mouse and charger), with a working copy of Lightroom Classic already installed (or trial copy) and a basic knowledge of computing. All images used in the workshop will be provided.**
