    In the words of a famous Japanese poet says "Each day is a journey, and the journey itself is home. - Matsuo Basho".

    Aotearoa is an immigrant nation – from the first peoples to colonial settlement, we have crossed the oceans to call this place home. Immigrant Journeys reveals the rich diversity that our most recent immigrants bring to Aotearoa New Zealand. Through their different skills, cultural backgrounds, and experiences they strengthen and add immense value to this country.

    LinC Rourou presents Immigrant Journeys: A Future Conversation. This event is a collaboration with Lady Khadija Trust, Ako Ōtautahi Learning City Christchurch and Leadership Lab as part of Learning Days 2022 themed Innovation in Equity. An opportunity to spotlight interviewees from the Immigrant Journeys documentaries and participate in roundtable conversations about how we can work together to create peace and unity between and within diverse communities. 

    What are some practical steps to achieving spaces where we are welcoming of everyone?

    This event will be staged so that we can safely meet the requirements of the COVID-19 Orange Traffic Light Setting. Masks are to be worn. There is a possibility that this event will be shifted online if we think it’s not safe to proceed in-person. 

    Immigrant Journeys Exhibition now on at Tūranga (until May 16):

    Discover the rich diversity that our most recent immigrants bring to Aotearoa New Zealand. Through their skills, cultural backgrounds and experiences, they strengthen and add immense value to this country and help shape its future. This exhibition is an original idea of the Lady Khadija Trust in collaboration with Telling Lives and Janneth Gil Photography.

    The LinC Project (Leadership in Communities) has been working towards its vision of seeing ‘thriving leaders active in flourishing communities’ of Ōtautahi and surrounds since 2014. Responding to the current needs of community leaders, LinC Rourou is an initiative which evolved from LinC Activator (public speaker series) and LinC Cultivator (peer-to-peer leadership programme). 

    The series explores ways to amplifying marginalised voices for advocacy and to provoke system change by:

    • hosting spaces to listen to contemporary issues and voices
    • modelling inclusion of diversity
    • collaborating with others to address gnarly issues
    • empowering community leaders to use their strengths to design and host initiatives open to all
