Love Stories of the Birrarung
Event description
What do you feel when you see the Yarra, Birrarung? What stories of connection to the river do you have - whether you’re new to Melbourne or have lived by the river your whole life? What is your love story of the Birrarung?
Love Stories of the Birrarung is a storytelling and community engagement project aimed at inspiring Victorians to love their river. For what we love, we take care of. The Yarra River Keeper Association (YRKA) and local authors Carolyn Tate and Christine McFetridge are bringing this project to life along the 242 km of the Birrarung from the source to the sea.
Join us and share your story of your special spot, a childhood memory or a conservation project you’re working on. Discover how you can contribute to this project and amplify it’s impact.
Drinks and refreshments are available to purchase at the venue.

This event is part of the inaugural Birrarung Riverfest, a month-long community celebration of our beautiful and resilient river starting on World Rivers' Day. Together with more than a dozen organisations, the festival provides an opportunity to connect to each other and the river's life force and reimagine the river's future. Engage your 'head, heart and hands' and be inspired to advocate for and care for your Birrarung River and all her critters!
There are 20 events to plan your Birrarung adventure, from art exhibitions, storytelling, river clean-ups, and camping, to cultural walks, platypus monitoring, pollution patrols, and even a book launch. To find out more: https://yarrariver.org.au/rive...
This event and the festival take place on the unceded land and waters of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. Festival organisers (the Yarra Riverkeeper Association and all partners) pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge their care of Country since time began.
This event is kindly supported by the Fairfield Park Boathouse.
