Love Stories of the Birrarung
Event description
What do you feel when you see the Yarra, Birrarung? What stories of connection to the river do you have - whether you’re new to Melbourne or have lived by the river your whole life? What is your love story of the Birrarung?
Love Stories of the Birrarung is a storytelling event aimed at inspiring Victorians to connect to, and love, our river. For what we love, we take care of.
Join local author, river-swimmer and Riverfest Producer Carolyn Tate at this panel discussion with three river-loving storytellers:
- Megan Davidson, lover of bats and member of Friends of Bats & Bushcare.
- Derek Cook, paddler, business owner at Up the Creek and Birrarung Cleanup coordinator.
- Helen MacLean, Parks Vic volunteer at Yarra Bend Park Walks.
Then share your own yarn of love for the river, whether that's a story about a special spot, a childhood memory or a conservation project you’re working on. Snacks will be provided and drinks are available for purchase at the bar.
Accessibility: There are no lifts at Fairfield Boathouse but the venue is wheelchair and pram friendly. There is just a small bump-like step to get into the space.

Acknowledgement of Country
The Yarra Riverkeeper Association acknowledges that the lands and waterways of the Yarra, Birrarung catchment, are the unceded territories of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung and Bunurong peoples. We pay respect to Traditional Owners, who have, and continue, to care for Country. We acknowledge that the river now called Yarra has always been known as the Birrarung by its custodians.
