We are fundraising to help cover some of the costs of producing quality theatre for young people.

This pub quiz fundraiser is specifically to help with the costs of costuming all 60 performers! We hope to make our fairytale costuming divine, in which young designers work alongside those with more experience to produce costumes that explore and go beyond the usual boundaries of art and textile. We aim to create much of the costuming from recycled materials in visually interesting ways. However, even this comes with costs. Zips, velcro, domes, thread, buckles, strapping, paint, glitter, sequins and even the purchase of recycled materials soon mount up.

Our upcoming children’s musical theatre production, Beauty Within The Beast is locally written by Franc Bol, with original score composed by local composer Malcolm Monteath. We will have at least 60 children performing on the stage, an orchestra of 19 young people and many more youth specifically working alongside professionals in all aspects behind the scenes.

Luminaires provides a platform for tamariki and rangatahi to expand their skills in the performing arts and participate in professional quality productions, with an emphasis on seeking and supporting those who otherwise may not have the opportunity due to financial constraints, accessibility issues and other social or personal barriers.

We thank you for your support which ensures that we can continue to provide opportunities for our tamariki and rangatahi, allowing them to become more resilient, confident and engaged in their surroundings, while strengthening their mental and physical wellbeing through their participation in Luminaires Charitable Trust

Luminaires Charitable Trust gives young people supported access to the performing arts, with an emphasis on seeking and supporting those who otherwise may not have the opportunity. Luminaires does this by providing possibilities of participation and skill development producing affordable high quality experiences to a youth audience. Confidence, clarity of communication and presentation is enhanced as they work in a team towards a combined goal. Compassion and appreciation for others is cultivated. Self discipline is strengthened. The social interaction of young people within this setting improves significantly as they form the bonds of friendship and discover like-minded peers. A huge benefit to their ongoing mental health and self worth, as they foster a strong sense of identity and self confidence. Luminaires operates according to a policy of inclusivity, we actively seek and sponsor a selection of participants who could not usually be involved with a learning opportunity like this due to financial hardship and struggle with their transportation needs. Our goal is to find ways to fully embrace the greater whanau for all involved, building community enrichment among families of differing backgrounds in activities where they work together as equals.
