Event description

Learn fractions, equality, and measurement the easy and fun way- in the kitchen!

This fun, educational, and practical cooking class will give your child a numeracy and confidence boost in essential skills before school starts in 2024.

One of the big ideas in Mathematics and essential numerical skills, that is lacking in many students is the concept of equality and partitioning. Many students never get a hands-on concrete example in school or at home to cognitively connect the dots to understand fractions and numbers smaller than one whole. Let alone, do students get quality time with a numeracy improvement specialist teacher and mindset expert- the host, Ruth Hibburt; famous for her empathetic ‘out of the box’ creative thinking and holistic approach to learning.

In this workshop your child will participate in hands on activities to measure and make fractions using food and baking ingredients to fully understand this critically important mathematical concept. Your child will also integrate their learning by drawing and writing the fractions, and learning in an event workbook, to be kept, and taken home.

All children attending will receive a certificate of completion for this workshop from the Inclusive Learning Foundation, signed by Ruth Hibburt.

All children will take the food they bake home and/or eat this for lunch. We will do our best to cater for dietary requirements, such as gluten free.

This event is for your child if:

- You want your child to head back into school or their home education program feeling confident, inspired, and motivated for success in 2024.

- They are struggling with essential numeracy relating to fractions

- They show symptoms of maths anxiety and/or dislike, avoid maths

- They go under the radar in a classroom environment or refuse to go to school

- Is home educating and you would like them to learn some essential numeracy skills
