Urgent Cities is an in-person workshop event run by Urban Design Forum as part of Melbourne Design Week.

Urgency seems to be the pervading atmosphere under which many big urban decisions are made regarding the future of our cities. From housing affordability to transport infrastructure, building standards to the climate emergency, problems need to be solved…and fast.

How can we design fast: well?

How do we keep up with rapid change, while still creating thoughtful outcomes that stand the test of time?

How do we maintain democratic participatory processes in such an atmosphere?

Urgent Cities will bring together experts in providing the research-base, messaging and advocacy to affect change regarding these issues. Run as a workshop, participants will produce targeted advocacy campaigns to stimulate significant change on pressing issues such as housing affordability, decarbonisation and biodiversity loss, in order to respond to these critical questions and improve the future of our cities.
