Medicinal Plant Walks
Description
Take a walk through Viles Arboretum where you'll meet different plants, shrubs, and trees and learn what they might offer from an herbal, homeopathic, or flower essence perspective. Guided by herbalist & homeopath Debra Bluth, you'll learn about the nutrition, energetics, and folklore of both wild and cultivated plants. Some might be familiar, while others are less well-known. Debra will talk about how to identifying the plants, which parts of the plants are used, and how to prepare them.
This three-part series will give you the opportunity to see how these medicinal plants develop throughout the growing season. Each walk will cover different plants (plants are subject to change). Registration is per walk - register for 1 or all 3! Rain date for each walk is the following Sunday).
May 30th - yarrow, plantain, dandelion, celandine, Solomon seal, violet, bloodroot, burdock
June 13th - Japanese knotweed, staghorn sumac, iris, comfrey, red clover, hawthorn, gingko, pine, white oak
September 5th - elderberry, blue vervain, boneset, elecampane, raspberry leaf, mugwort, lesser periwinkle, goldenrod, Queen Anne's lace, gravel root
Please come prepared to be outdoors. We recommend:
Wearing boots or hiking shoes that you don't mind getting dirty
Dressing in layers and for the weather
Bringing a water bottle, bug spray, and sunscreen
Recommended for ages 16 and up.
