Improvisation Technique for Strong Playback

Friday 28th August, 1pm - 5:30pm

For those new or experienced in improvisation, learn the specific improvisation skills that we use to perform Playback Theatre - a form where theatre is created on the spot, but rather than having the whole world as our oyster, the performers are crafting a representation of an existing story, a story that the whole audience has just heard.

How do we as an ensemble communicate which part of the story we are telling? How do we improvise the framing, arc and dramatic tension of the story we have just heard? Did we really not have a plan?

For experienced improvisers, Playback Theatre presents a remarkable challenge - how do I stay present and spontaneous within the constraint of 'not making anything up'?

For those new to performing or improvising, Playback Theatre is a very satisfying first step into the world of creating theatre and performance out of thin air.

Those who take this workshop will also be eligible to join our Playback Jam:

Sunday 30th August 10am - 2:30pm

A half day (4 hour) Playback Jam for folks who have any experience with Playback Theatre. We lead warm-ups and technique training and then launch into heaps of Playback.
