Melbourne Skyfarm Tour

This tour of Melbourne Skyfarm is presented by the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, offering a unique opportunity to explore a 2000-square metre rooftop carpark transformed into an urban farm and environmental oasis in the heart of the city for the Birrarung Riverfest 2024.

With further developments to come prior to the official opening to the general public, this collaboration between Melbourne-based sustainability companies aims to showcase the potential of underutilised urban spaces and promote sustainable farming practices.

Located in Melbourne's emerging Seafarer's precinct, Melbourne Skyfarm provides a picturesque view of the Yarra, Birrarung River and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The tour is led by Skyfarm's Urban Farmer, Brendan Condon who will demonstrate the innovative techniques used to grow food on the rooftop farm.

The produce grown at Melbourne Skyfarm not only helps fight food waste but also improves nutrition and reduces food insecurity. By showcasing the transformation of concrete urban spaces into productive and thriving urban farms, the tour aims to inspire attendees to consider greening their own environments and capturing rainwater. It also encourages them to grow their own produce, reducing food miles and improving local biodiversity.

The tour is expected to last between one and two hours, providing ample time to learn about the importance of sustainable urban farming and its positive impact on local communities. Participants will leave feeling inspired and empowered to make a difference in their own urban environments.

Getting there: Use the lift to the Rooftop of the Siddeley Street Car Park, 671-701 Flinders St, Docklands VIC 3008.

Accessibility: Wheelchair and pram friendly, but lower level only.

About Riverfest

This event is part of the 2024 Birrarung Riverfest. Celebrate our river at one of 30+ events being hosted over three weeks from 1- 22 September.
