When perimenopause came knocking,
it didn’t arrive softly.
It slammed into me.
It was something wild and unfamiliar burning inside.
My legs became restless, and heavy.
I’d lose words mid-sentence.
I cried without knowing why.
I felt exhausted in my bones.
My body expanding and contracting simultaneously.
As if I was silencing something that needed to live.
Like my symptoms were the side effects of blocking
a part of me I hadn’t met yet.
A part that was tired of being quiet.
One night, in the middle of it all —
Courage found me.
I opened the door.
And I witnessed her.
The woman I’m becoming.

Her wisdom whispered:
“Don’t give up on me.
Give me space.
Let me feel.
Let me rage.
Let me rest.
Let me be.
