    What This Course Covers

    • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness
    • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
    • How to interact with a person in crisis
    • How to connect the person with help
    • NEW: Expanded content on trauma, addiction and self-care

    What to expect

    The course has 3 required parts:

    1. Online pre-work done at your own pace before the live session(1-2 hours)
    2. TWO live, interactive training sessions:
      1. Saturday, Oct. 28th, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Central
      2. Saturday, Nov. 4th, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Central 

    The interactive sessions include a 15-minute break.

    Participants must complete the self-paced pre-work on their own before October 27, 3:00 pm Central to attend the live training and be eligible for certification.

    After completing the course requirements, each participant will receive a nationally recognized, 3-Year Mental Health First Aid Certification from the National Council of Behavioral Health.

    Participants will need access to an electronic device with good internet connection and speakers or headphones to complete the self-paced training.

    The in-person training site is ADA accessible, and reasonable accommodations are available by request.

    This course is valued at $170 USD. To make this as accessible as possible, Nicoya Helm, LLC is offering it on a sliding scale. If even the sliding scale options would be a financial hardship, please contact Nicoya at nicoyahelm.com about possible scholarship.

    Sliding scale options:

    $75 - covers the cost of classroom rental, learning materials, and the course administration work
    $100 - all of the above, plus a minimal payment for course instructor
    $125 - all of the above, and a livable wage for course instructor
    $150 or more - all of the above, plus helps support scholarship for another participant

    To address upfront costs of access to the online learning system and course administration, we have this refund policy:

    • Before or on October 21 – 90% refund
    • After October 21 – 25% refund
