Mental Health Where? Mental Health Concepts in Everyday Interpreting
Event description
Mental health content often arises in everyday interpreting—whether in education, social care, housing, job support, or even moments of crisis. But how prepared do we feel to engage with these topics when we’re not in specialist mental health settings?
This interactive workshop introduces common mental health concepts interpreters may encounter in generalist contexts, using a trauma-informed lens. Through discussion, reflection, and scenario-based learning, you'll have the chance to:
Build vocabulary
Deepen understanding of psychological themes in everyday work
Explore emotional impacts and ethical considerations
Grow your confidence in navigating complex content
You’ll leave with:
✔ Increased confidence when interpreting mental health content
✔ A clearer sense of your own support needs (e.g. supervision, further training)
✔ A deeper awareness of how mental health themes surface in community settings
