    Event description

Please note: this training is only for people who live or work in the City of Armadale and are Culturally and Linguistically Diverse. Both of these criteria must be met in order to secure your spot in this training.

Anyone can have a conversation that may save a life. Everyone should know how.

The Standard Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem and the treatments and supports available.

    What you'll learn

Learn how to apply mental health first aid to adults across a range of common mental health problems and crisis situations, including:

    • Depression
    • Anxiety
    • Psychosis
    • Substance use problems
    • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
    • Panic attacks
    • Non suicidal self-injury
    • Traumatic events

    Become a MHFAider

Adults who complete the course become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders), equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most.

    About our trainer

"Paul did an amazing job at engaging everyone with the content, his real-life examples and experiences gave context many in the training haven't seen or thought of before and it was extremely valuable. He also didn't sugarcoat things which I feel was so important to really understand the scope of the conversations. He was extremely open and inviting to questions and facilitated amazing discussions through the entire session." - Previous Participant

"Paul was an excellent instructor and did a very good job at keeping everyone at ease and fostering an open
dialog. He had no issues bringing up difficult topics and was always open to varying perspectives." - Previous participant
