I started adult life as a teacher, became a parent, and have since lived life with a focus on advocacy for children, training people working with children and families, and training Christian leaders. After many years working with government and community agencies including the Playgroup Association, Family Day Care and Communities for Children, I served as a pastor coordinating family ministries and formation programs for the Uniting Church in Synods in NSW and South Australia. I have written and blogged extensively about children's and family ministry and community development. In 2011 I launched Godly Play in Australia. Since that time several thousand people in Australia and New Zealand have been trained in the storytelling and wondering techniques of Godly Play, which grew from a Montessori foundation. l am an accredited Godly Play Australia Trainer and I provide introductions to Godly Play - primarily for children, and Deep Talk storytelling, which is a related methodology for adults. With a background spanning a couple of decades in banking, I have served as a founding director, chair, treasurer, or secretary for various not-for-profits and cooperatives, including Queensland Crime Stoppers, an arts cooperative, a retail health foods shop, and the co-operative that established and operated our school. I have also built and grown my own small gardening business. These experiences, along with participation in conferences and visits to schools across Australia and overseas, have reinforced my strong belief in educational choice — empowering parents and children to select the approach that best aligns with their learning needs and values.
