Every Saturday evening in March, Moonah Arts Centre will be host to a different line up, from South Sudanese traditional party music to carnival tunes from the Andean region of South America.

For the forth instalment, Saturday 25 March we present a night of South American music and dance featuring the well-loved  Arauco Libre + Xixa, and dances from  Beat Latina + Juana and Pablo Tango Argentino + Maira.

Arauco Libre
are a traditional Latin American band, formed in Hobart in 1987.
Comprised largely of political refugees who fled the Pinochet regime in Chile to
exile in Tasmania in the late 1980s, the band has remained true to its original
path over the preceding 34 years. The band plays music from the Andean region of South America (Northern
Chile, Northern Argentina, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador). This music includes folk,
traditional, dance and carnival tunes.

Xixa is pronounced Chi-cha after the Amazonian style of Cumbia commonly known to
come from Peru, Chicha. This somewhat psychedelic style of Cumbia was a way for traditional
Andean music to remain current with younger audiences. Cumbia is designed for dancing and having a good time.
Tasmania Xixa! Viva la Cumbia, Viva Xixa!
