    ABOUT MSG

    MSG – led by Brisbane/Gold Coast based Trombonist Mikael Strand – was formed in 2023 and is inspired by the Hard Bop and Soul Jazz movement. The group will showcase music from Art Blakey, Oliver Nelson, Slide Hampton, as well as original compositions by the band.

    Mikael has performed, recorded with the likes James Morrison, Don Burrows, Renee Geyer, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Jerry Lewis, Ingrid Jensen, Jim Pugh, Mad Professor, The Saints, Kate Miller-Heidke, Kristin Berardi, Hot 8 Brass Band, Bullhorn, West End Composers Collective, The Doch Gypsy Orchestra, Ash Grunwald, Sweet Thunder Jazz Orchestra and many more.

    Featuring a stellar line-up of some of Brisbane’s finest musicians, including Carl Harvoe on Trumpet, Dave Cox on Saxophone, Eden Armstrong on Piano, Elliot Parker on Bass, and Mitch Bellert on Drums, this event is not to be missed. Catch the premier performance of MSG live at JMI!
