Mumbai Donut Day
Event description
Mumbai is India’s business engine, and a cultural melting pot with a rich history that offers an abundance of opportunities. On the other hand, it has a host of enduring and worsening social and environmental problems that run deep, that hurt the health and well-being of every Mumbaikar.
Mumbai Donut Day launches the Mumbai Donut CoLAB, a Collective Action Movement that uses the Donut Economics Model and System Dynamics methodology to improve the quality of life of every person who lives and works in this city, in a sustainable and responsible manner.
Mumbai Donut Day is the first in a series of events, consultations and actions to engage citizens, social organizations, entrepreneurs, businesses and the Government to identify and implement practical solutions so we can, together, help make Mumbai more Liveable + Sustainable.
The event includes talks, presentations, games, discussion sessions, and an opportunity for every participant to share their views and ideas.

About Donut Economics
Oxford University Economist Kate Raworth has identified:
- 12 Social “Foundations” as the basic needs of people that must be fulfilled to live healthy and happy lives; and
- 9 Ecological “Ceilings” that, if breached, risk ecological crisis and collapse.
Sustainable Prosperity can be found when we meet the Social Foundations without breaching the Ecological Ceilings—this zone is the “Donut.”
The Donut Economics model covers a range of social, economic, and environmental factors. It is easy to visualize the current state and monitor progress, and forces us to confront the choices and trade-offs inherent in various development strategies.
