Nalbinding: from the earliest evidence to modern practice:

Learn at least five different loop manipulated stitches in this ancient technique that is found worldwide. The recent publication of my new book 'Nalbinding it's not knitting' is making this one particularly popular and it also has many overlaps into Australian indigenous craft traditions. 

We begin with a short overview to the different main stitch groups found globally and explore how the technique develops out of cordage, with experiments into cord-as-you-go methods, before moving on to explore simple looping (potentially with twisted and hourglass variations both of which are seen in examples from Oceania), looping-around-a-core, Coptic stitch, York stitch and finally Oslo stitch.

Each participant is supplied with needles to keep, fibre for cordage practice, and woollen yarns to work samples with as well as a professionally printed booklet of class notes.  Please let us know if anyone is unable to work with wool yarn.
