The program is funded by NALHN as part of the ACEM EMET Program. There is no cost to attend the evening and dinner will be provided.

Clinical Lead for the program is Dr Tariq Nehvi, Director of the NALHN EMET Program and Senior Consultant, Emergency Department Lyell McEwen Hospital.

Medical officers, General Practitioners, Nurses and Paramedics working in Emergency Care settings are welcome to attend the evening workshops. Registration is required and as numbers for each session are limited please book early to avoid disappointment.

Topic: ED Resuscitation of the Critically Ill (including Simulations)

This workshop covers the recognition and emergency management of patients with requiring resuscitation in the Emergency department. It will explore how to approach, assess, diagnose and manage the deteriorating critically ill patient.  

Course Learning Outcomes: 

• Recognise the importance of human factors and ergonomics of safe airway management. They will be able to understand the importance of team work and situational awareness during emergency resuscitation, both basic and advanced.

• Understand the difference between an anatomically and physiologically difficult airway and how to manage these safely.  

• Understand the principles of non-invasive ventilation in the rural emergency settings

• Prioritise the immediate management of the adult with serious or life threatening respiratory distress
