Thinking about babywearing but not sure where to begin?

Thinking About Babywearing but Not Sure Where to Begin?

Babywearing can be a wonderful way to keep your newborn close, support soothing and settling, and make everyday life a little easier.

Learning before your baby arrives gives you time to explore your options, understand the essentials of babywearing safety and practise without the pressure of caring for a new baby at the same time.

Join South Eastern Babywearing Group for a free, practical antenatal babywearing session at Oakgrove Community Centre in Narre Warren South.

What We Will Cover

During this two-hour session, we will explore:

  • the different types of baby carriers available

  • what to consider when choosing a carrier

  • what to look for when buying a carrier new or preloved

  • essential baby carrier safety checks

  • safe, upright positioning for newborns

  • how close carrying can support newborn soothing and settling

  • ways to make babywearing comfortable for both the baby and the person carrying them

  • how your babywearing needs may change as your baby grows

There will be opportunities to see, handle and try different carrier styles using our demonstration dolls.

Do I Need to Own a Carrier?

You do not need to own or bring a baby carrier.

We will have a range of wraps, slings and structured carriers available so you can see how different options work and begin considering what may suit your body, your baby and your family’s needs.

You are also welcome to bring a carrier you have already purchased or received so you can learn more about it before your baby arrives.

Who Is Welcome?

This session is designed for expectant parents at any stage of pregnancy.

Partners, grandparents and other people who may support you after your baby is born are warmly encouraged to attend. It can be particularly helpful for everyone who may use the carrier to hear the same safety information and practise together.

Free, Independent Babywearing Education

South Eastern Babywearing Group is a volunteer-run community service providing free, independent babywearing education and support.

We do not sell baby carriers or other products and do not receive commissions for recommending particular brands. There is no pressure to purchase anything.

Our aim is to help families understand their options and make informed choices that suit their individual needs.

Bookings

This is a free session, but registration is required so we can:

  • plan for the number of people attending

  • provide enough demonstration carriers and dolls

  • ensure everyone has an opportunity for practical participation

  • contact attendees if the session needs to be changed or cancelled

Please book a place for each adult attending. You do not need to book a separate ticket for your unborn baby.

Photos at Our Events

We sometimes take photographs at our events to help show families what to expect and illustrate the support we provide.

These may include general photographs of the session, a group photograph or individual participants who have agreed to be photographed.

It is completely fine not to be photographed. We will always ask before taking an individual photograph, and you may be asked to complete a photo consent form.
