Event description
From Concept to Creation: Behind the Scenes of a Picture Book
Leah McDowell (she/her), Art & Production Director at the award-winning independent Scottish publisher Floris Books will take you behind the scenes of the creation of The Treasure of the Loch Ness Monster (written by Lari Don and illustrated by Nataša Ilinčić).
Leah will reveal how a manuscript becomes a finished picture book, covering everything from the illustration brief and character development to storyboarding and the roughs process. Packed full of insight and helpful tips for those who aspire to illustrate children's picture books.
Plus: bonus content! Floris Books have just launched their annual Kelpies Prize for Illustration, so Leah will share the brief and give some tips on what the judges are looking for.
This event is aimed at neurodivergent artists and writers interested in getting into childrens' picture books. It is open to all neurodivergent creatives in Scotland - you don't need to be a Neuk member!
