New Year's Eve Big Dinner: The Cenone

Event description

New Year's Eve is a big deal in Italy and since we are two Italian farmers in Vermont, we bring the big deal to Vermont. Like all Italians affairs, big events are celebrated with food and there is usually no better place to eat than at Italian farms, even when the Italian farm is located in the middle of Vermont.

New Year's Even dinner is partcularly bounty and extravagant in the Italin culture and each year we are in competitions with friends and family in Italy to see who is eating better! We prepare between 10 and 12 courses and it takes about 4 hours to go through the whole meal so that we are able to end right exactly at midnight!

The menu always includes the MUST have, that all Italian households will be sharing at their dinner tables: Capelletti in Brodo (dumplings in broth), Cotechino and Lentils (a type of sausage usually prepared only on new year's eve); and of course Panettone (Stefano has peerfected his panettone baking skills and he uses a yeast starter that is over 100 years old!). Our farm (Agricola) is a livestock farm and we are known for our cured meats (known as salumi or charcuteries), so youa re likely to taste those as ingredients in some of the dishes, but there are plenty of recipes in Italian cusine that are focused on vegetables, so you will be exposed to a lot of variety. What is always true is that we try to be true to our terroir and the season, so we will not be using pineapples shipped from south america for this winter meal. the Menu is fixed but we will call email you ahead of time to learn about any food restriction or allergies in your party - to make sure everyone at the table is having a fullfilling and comfortable experience. We are not able to acomodate people that have a gluten free diet for this specific event. We are very sorry about this but we do not have the manpower to ensure a fulfilling experience to our gluten free guests. Several of the dishes are going to be gluten free but several will ahve gluten.

Our guests sit at tables placed in 2 dining rooms in our farm house and are often sitted at large tables with other people they do not know. Occasionally we have people coming alone or large group of firends. We can sit up to 10 people (12 if you squeeze) at one table but we can sit as many as 18 people in the same room.

This is a BYOB event. We provide you only water and the glasses for your beverages of choice. Please plan ahead for a designated driver to make sure everyone is safe and happy at all times. There are several B&B and some airB&B close to our farm you can reserve ahead of time if you do not want to drive too long.
