Conversation: Doughnut Economics with Kate Raworth

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Kate Raworth is a renegade economist. In her seminal book, Doughnut Economics, she shows us how we can rethink, reclaim and redraw economics. Kate’s doughnut is a strikingly simply analogy for a flourishing society where the outside of the doughnut represents the ecological ceiling that we cannot go beyond, and the inside of the doughnut represents the social foundation that we should not let people fall below. Kate’s model has caused a ripple across the world. From the halls of power in China to classrooms in Sweden, her model is being absorbed, reinterpreted and taught at scale. In a Western world of increasing apathy and political frustration, Kate’s model provides more than a glimmer of hope; it is a framework for recovery and a gateway to a true economic transition.

Join Kate in conversation with Small Giants Academy about the power and potential of rethinking economics in a post-COVID world. We’ll explore the doughnut economics framework, the philosophy that underpins it, and the practical examples that are emerging all over the world. We’ll delve into Kate’s perspective on the COVID-19 crisis and we will ask what doughnut economics could look like for Australia’s future.
