No Safe Screen. No One Immune.

What happens behind a screen can change a life.

A teenager being blackmailed and too terrified to tell anyone.

A woman discovering her image has been manipulated or shared without her consent.

A man being threatened with intimate images being sent to his family or workplace.

Sextortion. Deepfakes. Image-based abuse. Cyberbullying. Online grooming.

These aren't distant problems happening to other people.

They are happening to women, men, young people and families every day.

On 8 October 2026, Melmark Law, in collaboration with SmackTalk, is bringing Melbourne together for NO SAFE SCREEN an evening confronting what is really happening behind our screens and what we can do about it.

Hosted by Melanie Vairawanathan and Landi Freyer of Melmark Law, the evening will bring together powerful voices across lived experience, online safety, advocacy and law, alongside professionals, business leaders, educators, parents and members of the community. Together, we'll confront one of the most important questions of our time:

How do we protect ourselves, our families and each other in a digital world changing faster than we can keep up?

This is about recognising the warning signs. Starting conversations before a crisis. Knowing where to turn. And making sure that when something happens behind a screen, nobody feels they have to face it alone.

No Safe Screen. No one immune.

SPEAKERS

  • WAYNE HOLDSWORTH | Founder, SmackTalk - KEYNOTE SPEAKER

WAYNE HOLDSWORTH | Founder, SmackTalk - KEYNOTE SPEAKER

A father who turned unimaginable loss into a mission to protect others. Wayne Holdsworth never expected to become one of Australia's most powerful voices on sextortion and online safety. That changed after the devastating loss of his 17-year-old son, Mac, following an incident of sextortion. Since then, Wayne has made it his mission to make sure other young people, parents and families know what he wishes his own family had known. Through SmackTalk, Wayne travels across Australia speaking openly about sextortion, online harm and the conversations we need to be having before it's too late. His work has reached thousands of Australians and his story has been shared across national media, but at the heart of everything Wayne does is something much simpler: Mac's story. A story Wayne continues to tell in the hope that another young person recognises the warning signs. Another parent starts the conversation. Another family knows where to turn. At No Safe Screen, Wayne will share Mac's story, what he has learned since losing his son, and what he wants every Australian to understand about the dangers that can exist behind our screens. This is a story that is difficult to hear. But it is one we cannot afford not to.

  • LAURA BATES | Best-Selling Author & Activist

    LAURA BATES | Best-Selling Author & Activist

Laura Bates went inside the deepfake economy, the sex robot trade and the online worlds influencing teenage boys, investigating what is already being built, who it is reaching and what it could mean for the next generation. Her work raises confronting questions about the digital world our children are growing up in and how rapidly changing technology is shaping their understanding of sex, relationships, consent and each other. Laura Bates is an internationally recognised author, activist and founder of the Everyday Sexism Project, a global movement examining sexism and inequality and their impact on women and girls. She is the best selling author of Everyday Sexism, Men Who Hate Women and The New Age of Sexism. Her work has taken her deep inside online communities, emerging technologies, algorithms and digital cultures to understand how they are influencing attitudes and behaviour in the real world. Her campaigning has helped drive real world change, from putting consent on the national curriculum to influencing Facebook's policies on rape and domestic violence content. At No Safe Screen, Laura will join us live from the UK for a special conversation exploring: What is happening behind our screens, and what is it doing to the way a generation thinks about sex, relationships, consent and each other? From AI and deepfakes to harmful online content, digital influence and the rapidly changing technology reaching our children, this isn't a conversation about blaming men or women. It's about understanding the world our children are entering and what all of us can do to help make it safer. This is a conversation for mothers and fathers, men and women, professionals, educators and community leaders, because online safety affects all of us.

She became the target of online abuse. Then she became one of the world's most prominent voices fighting it. Noelle Martin is a lawyer, award-winning activist and internationally recognised advocate against deepfake and image-based abuse. After experiencing horrific online abuse herself, Noelle transformed her experience into more than a decade of advocacy for survivor rights, women and girls, and greater accountability in the digital world. At No Safe Screen, Noelle will bring together lived experience, law and research to confront an increasingly urgent question: What happens when technology can create an intimate image of you that never existed, without your consent, and make the world believe it's real? This isn't a problem of the future. It's already here.
