Event description

This Nonviolence and De-escalation Training is part of the We Are The Bridge month of action, taking place between May 15 to May 24th.

This training teaches how to foster peace during moments of conflict. Participants will receive a basic overview of the CLARA de-escalation method, and practice tools to safely and efficiently intervene with cultural sensitivity. This training will be facilitated by the Portland Peace Team.

About We Are The Bridge: Rise For Racial Justice: We Are The Bridge is a month of action to remember the five year anniversary of George Floyd and to amplify the movement for Black lives. Our signature event is on May 24th, a peaceful march through downtown Portland culminating in a return to Burnside Bridge, the location of the iconic 2020 protest photo which inspired the entire world. We march for a renewal of solidarity and commitment to uplift the lives of Black Oregonians. We demand immediate action to expand opportunities for our local Black community to thrive— economically, socially, and spiritually. This initiative and coalition is convened by healing justice nonprofit, Brown Hope.

About Portland Peace Team: Portland Peace Team provides nonviolent nonpartisan conflict transformation services for the public. They also offer de-escalation services at Portland area events that are advertised and promoted as either nonviolent, family friendly, or peaceful.
