Nowanup Birak Music and Culture Camp
Event description
Creating opportunities to learn Noongar language and culture for each Noongar season, supported by music, song, dance, crafts and food
Who can attend: This camp is open to adults and children with an interest in contributing and learning more about Noongar language and culture.
Catering: Provided – Community cooking help is appreciated.
Costs: Please allow a contribution of $110 ($70 concession) for two nights. Children are free. Contact Rod if you would appreciate financial support to attend.

What to bring: Please bring your own camping gear, clothing for warm, cool and wet conditions, your musical instruments and art and craft materials.Â
Shower facilities are only available for those with special needs

Our language camps are made possible through volunteer contributions by the Friends of Nowanup, payments by participants and a grant by the Wyemando Harper Sisters Aboriginal Bequest.
All Nowanup events are are drug and alcohol free and subject to Covid 19 restrictions.
PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT
Friends of Nowanup Birak Camp and Working Bee
I understand that this is a community-initiated event organized by the non-incorporated organization Friends of Nowanup and made possible through members of the Friends of Nowanup taking on voluntary organizational and practical roles. All money collected will be spent to cover Elders fees, food, camp logistics etc.
The Birak Camp involves activities that may encompass, among other things, physical exertion, and personal sharing.
- 1. I know of nothing concerning my physical, emotional or mental health that would make my participation in the Journey inappropriate, unwise or unsafe to myself or to others.
- 2. I agree that should my participation become actually or potentially harmful to my health and well-being, and or to the health and well-being of the participants, I will withdraw from it or from any part of it.
- 3. I accept that the Friends of Nowanup accepts no liability whatsoever for any physical, emotional or mental injury or illness to me, or for the loss of my personal property, arising, or said to arise, as a result of or as a consequence of my participation in the Kambarang Camp
- 4. I hereby indemnify the community and those volunteering for organizational roles from any liability whatsoever and howsoever arising from loss or damage caused by me, suffered by me or caused to me, and/or to my personal property as a consequence of my participation in the Journey
- 5. Our philosophy on the Kambarang Camp is one of Respect and all care will be taken to minimise our impact on the environment and support each other.
I, the undersigned, hereby acknowledge that:
- I have read and accepted the above conditions of participation.
- I will cooperate with plans and procedures that have been designed to minimise the risk of accidents, injuries and other trauma.
