Description

We invite you to spend the evening enjoying Olga's expressive and colourful paintings, meeting fellow art lovers and exploring a world of curious characters, unexpected encounters and imaginative stories.

About the Exhibition

Life is a curious kind of circus. We fall in love, play our parts, wear our masks, make choices, dream, and sometimes find ourselves in situations we could never have imagined.

In Love, Life & the Other Circus, Olga Bakhtina reflects on the joys, contradictions and occasional absurdities of everyday life.

The exhibition brings together women and animals, lovers and dreamers, Venetian scenes, interiors and circus characters. Moving between humour and mystery, her paintings explore the complexities of human relationships and the unexpected ways our lives unfold.

With vibrant colours, expressive brushwork, geometric forms and playful patterns, Bakhtina transforms familiar subjects into imaginative compositions. Each painting suggests a story, leaving room for viewers to interpret the characters, their relationships and what might happen next.

About the Artist

Olga Bakhtina is a Brisbane-based contemporary artist whose practice centres on emotion, storytelling and the human figure.

Born in Russia, she began her formal art education while living in Oman and later studied with Archibald Prize winner David Paulson in Australia. She holds a degree in Art History from the University of Queensland, completed in 2024.

Her artistic influences include the École de Paris, Fauvism and Early Renaissance painting, with a particular admiration for artists such as Matisse, Chagall, Modigliani and Soutine.

Since her first solo exhibition in 2012, Olga has exhibited regularly across Australia and received multiple art awards. Her paintings are represented in public and private collections in Australia and overseas.

Creative Room Art Space is a contemporary gallery and studio in West End, Brisbane, dedicated to connecting emerging artistic voices with curious audiences and collectors. We offer a welcoming setting to experience and engage with contemporary art.

Our curated exhibition program highlights early‑career and mid‑career artists with a distinctive visual language and a committed studio practice. Many of the artists we work with have participated in national and international exhibitions, residencies and awards, bringing a diverse range of stories and perspectives to the gallery. We focus on conceptually rich, visually engaging projects that respond to current cultural conversations while remaining accessible.

In addition to exhibitions, we host a select program of studio‑based workshops and short courses for adults. These events give participants a chance to explore materials, develop skills and gain insight into artists’ processes in an intimate, supportive environment. Workshops complement our exhibition program by opening up new ways for people to connect with the artwork and ideas presented in the space.

Above all, Creative Room Art Space aims to build meaningful connections between artists, audiences and collectors. Whether you visit to see a show, attend a special event or join a one‑off workshop, you’ll be welcomed into a thoughtful and creative community.
