Event description
OPEN CHRISTCHURCH 2023: He Puna Taimoana - Team Tours
Architects: AW Architects & Select Contracts, 2020
Enjoy a guided walk through this recreational oasis. Hear about what considerations went into the design process - from cultural narratives to wind mitigation - and how the complex meets the needs of its users. Find out how the coastal environment is acknowledged throughout the timber structure, materials and design and learn more about He Puna Taimoana’s role in New Brighton’s regeneration.
A carved gateway marks the entrance to this New Brighton legacy project - an oasis protected from the easterly winds. This recreational area comprises saltwater hot pools, a sauna, steam room and plunge pool. As a catalyst build He Puna Taimona is set to activate both the connection between the suburb and its watery eastern edge, and the suburb of New Brighton to wider Christchurch. The coastal environment is acknowledged throughout the timber structure, materials and design. Find out more on the tour.
