Open Day and Volunteering Event at Kauwi-Marnirla Field River Conservation Park
Event description
On Tuesday the 26th of August, NPWS Rangers are hosting an open day alongside the Kaurna branch of the national Indigenous network, Firesticks. Join us for an insightful and immersive event at Kauwi-Marnirla Field River Conservation Park, as Rangers and the Kaurna Firesticks team share their knowledge on the history of the park, the native vegetation and wildlife, and the future aspirations for park management.
The event will include an opportunity to get your hands dirty, with some voluntary weed (predominantly olive) management, led by Rangers and Kaurna Firesticks. A warming cup of tea and some nibbles will also be provided.
VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
NPWS Rangers are looking to develop new opportunities for volunteering in the park to assist with conservation efforts. If you are interested, come along and say hello! We look forward to seeing you there.

THE PARK
Kauwi-Marnirla Field River Conservation Park is one of the National Parks and Wildlife Service's (NPWS) newest parks, having only been proclaimed in November 2024. Located in the Field River catchment between Sheidow Park and Reynella, the park increases regional protections for native species and habitats, and offers an open, natural space for the community to enjoy.
The Aboriginal co-name, Kauwi-marnirla translates to place of ‘two good waters’ and is pronounced ‘Cowee-ma-rni-rla’.
Please keep in mind that Kauwi-Marnirla Field River Conservation Park has areas which increase in steepness and a moderate level of fitness is required to take part in the guided walk and planting session.
